Welcome

British Sports Trust

"Sport is a powerful and often under-used tool that can help Government to achieve a number of ambitious goals. We have to ensure that we are well equipped to do that."
Prime Minister Tony Blair, December 2002.

Our philosophy is 'teams, not gangs', and our goal simple: to encourage people to discover their potential and help them to share those abilities with others. We use the popularity and accessibility of sport to harness the potential of young people and in doing so, support them in making a positive contribution to their own communities. The vital life skills which they help develop, such as organisation, motivation, teamwork, and communication skills - are all essential in today's world, both on and off the playing field. Our Sports Leader Awards are fun, practical and enjoyable and, with no exams to take, are ideal for those alienated or excluded from formal education. Employers recognise the benefits that a Sports Leader Award offers, and many participants use the Award as a gateway to education or further volunteering in their communities.

Our core values:
  • Personal development - helping people reach their true potential

  • A stepping stone to employment - providing a qualification to get started

  • Developing leadership - teaching organisation, motivation and teamwork skills

  • Volunteering in communities - encouraging people to help others

  • Reducing youth crime - keeping young people engaged in positive activities

  • Supporting more active healthier communities - by providing Sports Leaders to organize a range of physical activity sessions
