Tories would tighten abortion laws
The Conservatives would allow parliament to pass new legislation tightening abortion laws.
A backbencher would have to introduce the proposals in a private member's bill, but the Tories would not block the measure if MPs backed it, the party said yesterday.
Tory leader Michael Howard has revealed his support for banning abortions 20 weeks after conception, instead of 24 as currently allowed.
