New knife curbs on under-18s
The government is to publish proposals this week which would ban those aged under 18 from buying knives.
David Blunkett also wants to allow head teachers to conduct airport-style security checks on pupils they believe may be carrying knives or guns.
A spokesman said the home secretary will announce a consultation on knife crime at a meeting with police chiefs and community leaders on Wednesday.
