Unions are preparing to support a resolution at the Labour conference which will call for the re-nationalisation of the rail network.

Speaking at the TUC conference on Thursday, Gerry Doherty, general secretary of the moderate transport union TSSA, said: "We are not doing it for dogma, we are not doing it for ideology, we are doing it because it is right."
