Ministers compromise on Mental Health Bill

Home secretary David Blunkett has agreed to weaken proposals in the mental health bill that would have allowed the compulsory treatment of potentially dangerous people who had committed no crime.

A revised bill will be presented to a parliamentary scrutiny committee next month.
