CBI condemns environmental red tape

The CBI has criticised Margaret Beckett's Whitehall ministry for its "heavy-handed" enforcement of environmental regulations.

In a report published today, the business lobby group said the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs was unnecessarily adding to the £4 billion a year cost of complying with the rules.
