Income inequality remains high

Income inequality remains at historically high levels despite the large redistribution towards the poor under Labour, according to the Institute for Fiscal Studies.

However, the government's investment in tax credits and welfare to work has produced a fall in relative poverty, with the government on target to cut child poverty by a quarter when the figures come out later this year.
