Ministers opt for pension rethink

The government has reconsidered its plans to scrap pension books and pay all state benefits directly into bank accounts.

Work and pensions minister Chris Pond said that rather than force all claimants to open a bank or post office account to receive benefits, "vulnerable" people will be sent a cheque to their home to be cashed at a post office
