Official guidelines for NHS trusts that restrict women's choice about how they give birth are published today.

Women who request a caesarean to fit in with busy lifestyles or because they think it is less risky than a vaginal birth should "not automatically" be granted their wish, according to the National Institute for Clinical Excellence.
