Whitty warns on slow progress against gangmasters

Lord Whitty has conceded that action to halt the operation of gangmasters has been too slow.

"I am not confident that we yet have a sufficiently rigorous enforcement in this area at all," the agriculture minister said.

His comments came as the government came under fire from MPs over its failure to provide an adequate response following the Chinese cockle-picking tragedy.
