Unique opportunity to contribute towards peace in the Middle East
We have an absolutely unique opportunity to contribute towards peace in the Middle East, by helping to identify areas where the Palestinian and Israeli ICT sectors can co-operate. We are looking for two volunteers who possess certain consulting skills. The initial exercise will be to create a market map.
Intellect has been asked for help by Mercy Corps, an NGO (Non Governmental Organisation). They have been awarded a grant by the UK Government Middle East and North Africa Conflict Prevention Pool, and they expect a further grant from the EU.
Participants will need to travel to Jerusalem, although some of the work can be done in the UK. Mercy Corps will pay all expenses and will contribute towards salary costs. Their project plan indicates a need for 21 person days. They have a budget of just under 10,000 (excluding travel) - in other words a little under 500 per day.
If you are interested or know anyone with the right skills who might be interested, please contact Tom Wills-Sandford T 07770 270974 E tom.wills-sandford@intellectuk.org Tom has a lot more detail.

Intellect welcomes Defence Committee's endorsement of UAVs as part of joined-up approach to information superiority
Intellect has welcomed the Defence Committee's Report on the Contribution of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to ISTAR Capability, published today. Intellect, which gave extensive evidence to the report, called for the exploitation of data from this technology to be the key focus of the future development of UK Intelligence, Surveillance, Target acquisition and Recognition (ISTAR) capability.
Joel Grundy, Defence and Security Programme Manager at Intellect said: "We are delighted that the committee has recognised that how information is used is as important as how it is gathered. There is no use in creating 'information mountains' without the ability to analyse and exploit the data for the frontline. In Basra, in Helmand and here at home, the effective use of information and communication technology is critical to support our troops, our security services and our allies." Read more»

Intellect reaches finals
Intellect's Energy and Enviroment report 'High Tech: Low Carbon - The role of technology in tackling climate change' was short listed for the Environmental Initiative Award as part of the Trade Association Forum's Best Practice Awards 2008. Although we didn't win, being shortlisted was a great achievement in itself.
The Best Practice Awards recognise and reward the achievements of Trade Association Forum members. The purpose of the Awards is to foster the search for excellence, to recognise and reward achievement and to encourage the communication and adoption of best practice.

A decadent day at the races.
"Thanks for an excellent day last Friday at Goodwood. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and for once found myself up on the day! As always, the venue and organisation of the whole day was excellent."
Oliver Scott, Corporate Finance, Director, KBC Peel Hunt Ltd
Over 80 guests were in attendance at Intellect's corporate hospitality event at Glorious Goodwood. This year we were joined by racing tipster Mike Cattermole, who gave first-class tips to all those who fancied a flutter and ex-jockey and Goodwood winner John Reid MBE who shared his insider knowledge.
The day was a resounding success with most coming away with a profit. Thanks go to our sponsors, Regent Associates. If you would like details on Glorious Goodwood 2009, please contact Tina Compton for full details T 020 7331 2011 E tina.compton@intellectuk.org
