Section 28 bites the dust

 

The House of Lords backing for repeal of Section 28 waswelcomed by the National Union of Teachers, today 11 July 2003.

 

John Bangs, head of education and equalopportunities at the NUT, said:

 

The purpose of Section 28 was tointimidate teachers and young people. It helped fuel fuel ugly prejudice andcreate an atmosphere of fear.

 

Removing this nasty little piece oflegislation has taken a long time but we should all celebrate its demise.

 

Now we need to move on to eradicating thecauses of homophobia in our society.
