Manchester mailroom scoops two national awards

Staff at BUPA's Salford Quays offices have won twonational accolades at this year's Unlimited Office Stars Awards: best mail roomteam of the year and the overall team of the year.

 

The 23-strong mailroom team handles over a quarter of amillion documents each year and supports 850 staff in BUPA's Salford Quaysoffices. It is responsible for opening post, sorting and forwarding members'claims and bills to the right departments. Once the mailroom team has scannedeach document onto BUPA's computer systems, it is ready for immediateprocessing so that paperwork can be completed within 24 hours.

 

The Unlimited Office Stars awards promote excellence, bestpractice and innovation in office work and highlight the importance of suchwork in today's business climate. In their second year, the awards attractedmore than 1,000 entries from large and small companies across industry,commerce and the public sector. The judges comprised the Industrial Society,Unlimited Magazine and Quest Media. The judges felt that the BUPA mailroom wasa 'truly outstanding team whose level of professionalism, teamwork and standingin the company made them ideal as a role model for the office workingprofession'.

 

Karen Blakemore, mailroom manager said, 'We are alldelighted to have won these two awards. In the past, the services provided bythe mailroom have been taken for granted by our colleagues. There has been amarked change since BUPA's huge investment in technology with an increasedawareness of the different roles within the department and the importance ofthe team to the business. Our claims handling turnaround has improved greatlyand this has enabled us to make a major contribution to the company's overallservice performance. The challenge for us now is to continue to improve so thatwe can win next year!'
