Commenting on theTES/SHA survey, Doug McAvoy, General Secretary of the National Union ofTeachers, said:
The findings of thesurvey are an indictment of the DFESs complacency in front of the schoolsfunding crisis. The DFES got it sumswrong in providing for the costs facing schools this September yet it refusesto restore to schools the additional money they need.
The net result of theDFESs failure is the culling of teaching posts; a direct contradiction of DFESassurances that teacher numbers would rise by 10,000.
I regret that theother teacher organisations and the TUC have failed to call for additional fundingfor this year. It is essential that allthose who believe in education as a top priority should press the DFES to giveto schools what it promised now.
