London Occupational Therapist struck off by UK Health Regulator

An occupational therapist from London has been struck off by the Health Professions Council.

A panel of the Conduct and Competence Committee met to consider the case of Alide Schimke on 28th October 2004. They heard that her fitness to practice as a registered health professional is impaired by reason of misconduct arising out of her employment with Enfield Council.

The allegation was well founded in that Ms Schimke failed to return 25 patient files when requested, she failed to keep appointments with regard to returning the files and by not returning the files created a substantial risk that the confidentiality of the patients would be breached.

Sandy Yule, the chair of the panel, said....."Because of the seriousness of the allegations...we have come to the conclusion that the only means by which the public can be adequately protected is by making a striking off order".

The Health Professions Council is a UK wide health regulator set up to protect the public. It sets standards for twelve health professions. The HPC only registers people who meet its standards for their professional skills, behaviour and health, and will take action against people who do not.
