Records numbers set to attend HPC consultation events

The Health Professions Council (HPC) is set to hear from a record number of health professionals as it starts its continuing professional development (CPD) consultation road-show on Monday 13th September in London.

The road-show, which will last until the end of November 2004, will see HPC visit 22 towns and cities across the United Kingdom, holding almost 50 meetings. Over 4,500 health professionals have registered to attend the events and HPC expects that number to rise to almost 5,500 by the end of the consultation. On top of that 145,000 documents have begun to be mailed to every registrant so that they can read and then respond to the proposals without having to attend an actual event.

Already the afternoon events in London on both September 13th and November 24th are fully booked with 300 people attending each one, but spaces are still available in the evening sessions between 6-8pm. On top of this Glasgow and Bolton's' afternoon sessions are nearing full capacity, but again for each of these events room is still available in the evening sessions.

The proposals outline how HPC will set about linking CPD to registration from summer 2005.

Speaking about the consultation HPC Director of Communications, Chris Middleton said, "We are delighted to see so many health professionals taking an active interest in what Council is proposing regarding CPD. The events, while important, only form a small part of the consultation with the vast majority of people choosing to write or e-mail their thoughts to us. Still, with 4,500 people already registered to attend it shows the format is a successful and popular one and we are looking forward to meeting these people and hearing their views over the next few months."
