NUT calls uponthe Government to encourage food companies to withdraw advertising aimed atchildren

Commenting on theannouncement by Coca Cola to withdraw their adverts targeted at under 12s andthe commitment by Heinz to not get involved in school promotions, Doug McAvoy,General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, said:

These welcome movesby Coca Cola and Heinz are positive steps in the right direction.

I call on theGovernment to introduce regulations which ensure that all other food companiesdo the same. The NUT is committed toprotect children and is concerned that schools are increasingly under pressureto act as agents for food companies in ways that are potentially damaging tochildrens health.
