PRESS RELEASE
MAYOR OF BRENT AND BARRY GARDINER MP AT SHAW TRUST CARLYON
16 June 2003
Shaw Trust Carlyon will be welcoming the Mayor of Brent and Barry Gardiner MP on Monday 16 June at 10.15am, who will officially re-launch the Carlyon Road print works. Managed by Shaw Trust, Carlyon Print provides supported employment for 26 disabled people across Brent. During their visits The Mayor and Mr Gardiner will see for themselves how a European cash injection has been used to re-furnish the print works. Now celebrating 21 years of operation, Shaw Trust is a national disability charity that provides training and work opportunities for over 14,000 disabled and disadvantaged people each year.
Barry Gardiner MP said "Carlyon Print has long been recognised for its achievements working with disabled people in Brent. Their recent cash boost from Europe will ensure that the centre provides both a modern working environment and a gateway to other employment within the local community." His Worship the Mayor says "I am delighted to see such exciting developments at Carlyon. This is a perfect example of effective partnership working. The London Borough of Brent and Shaw Trust have worked very well together and secured extra resources for disabled people in Brent."
Amanda Lewis, Shaw Trust Carlyon Project Manager adds, ”Our refurbishment, financed through European monies has enabled us to have a massive investment programme to re-equip our printing facilities and help us to extend the range of commercial services that we can market to other businesses. This means we’re ideally placed to service local businesses and maintain our mission to provide employment and training for disabled people”.
