Beyond the Fringe...

The Local Government Information Unit (LGIU), The Education Network (TEN) and the Democratic Health Network (DHN) have a strong line-up of fringe meetings and events throughout the autumn party conference season.

Liberal Democrats in Brighton

Schools: centre of learning in the 21st Century, with Liberal Democrat Education spokesperson Phil Willis MP as the main speaker at 6pm-7pm, Sunday 21 September in the Keats and Shelley Suite of the Thistle Hotel.

Council respond to new priorities: food policy: with Matthew Green MP and Cllr John Miller at 1pm-2pm, Monday 22 September in the Kent 2 room of the Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel.

The LGIU's Joint reception with the Local Government Association (LGA) is on Monday 22 September at 8pm-9.15pm in the Clarence Room of the Hilton Hotel.

Public scrutiny: the lessons from health, with Baroness Sally Hamwee, Dr Jane Martin (Centre for Public Scrutiny) and Dr Fiona Campbell (DHN). 1pm-2pm on Tuesday 23 September in the Kent 2 room at the Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel.


Labour in Bournemouth

70 at 17: why are children getting adult health problems? With Benet Middleton (Diabetes UK)) and Christine McInnes (Health Development Agency). 5pm-6pm on Sunday 28 September in the Keble Suite of the Hermitage Hotel.

Doing the Future: Councils respond to the needs of young people. With Local Government Minister Nick Raynsford MP, Cllr Jon Collins (Leader, Nottingham City Council) and Cllr Ian Mearns (Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council), at 1pm-2pm on Monday 29 September in the Hardy Suite of the Hermitage Hotel.

The role of the private sector in primary care, with Dr John Reid, Secretary of State for Health (invited), Judith Blakeman (Socialist Health Association) and Karen Jennings (Unison). At 6pm-7.30pm on Monday 29 September in the Keble Suite of the Hermitage Hotel.

At 1pm-2pm on Wednesday 1 October in the Cork Ballroom of the Tralee Hotel.

Voting and participation, with Peter Hetherington (The Guardian), Glyn Matthias (Chair, Electoral Commission Review on Voting Age), Simon Woolley (Operation Black Vote), Alex Folkes (Votes at 16). At 6pm-7.30pm on Wednesday 1 October in the Keble Suite of the Hermitage Hotel.


Conservatives in Blackpool

Tackling the fear of crime within our communities: a fresh approach, with Eric Pickles MP (Conservative Local Government Spokesperson), Tony Hawkhead CBE (Groundwork Trust Ltd) and Cllr Paul Bettison (Leader, Bracknell Forest Borough Council) at 7pm-8.00pm on Monday 6 October in the Regency Suite of the Ruskin Hotel.
