Rehabilitating a Drugged Society

Recent tragic events in the United Stateshave changed the way most of us view the priorities and values in our lives.Future security for our children and ourselves has especially taken on a newdimension. The terrorist attacksdemonstrated the destruction a small minority of persons can wreak, and let itbe known, no matter what forceful retaliation is exacted against the culprits,it will not make a world at peace or without war. Countless wars have proventhat. The solution lies in social reform. However, the planet today has come up against a barrier that preventsany widespread social progress - drugs and other biochemical substances. This barrier underlies the problems ofviolence and hate and the breakdown in ethical fibre.

Research has demonstrated that the singlemost destructive element present in our current culture is drugs. The use ofstreet drugs - LSD, heroin, cocaine, angel dust, marijuana and others - hasproliferated at all levels of society. College students atrophy their brains onmarijuana; schoolchildren are shoved daily into pill popping by both peer andpharmaceutical pressures; and the seemingly everyday Smith down the street andJones at the job harbour a habit they neither admit nor deal with. In researching the mental barriers caused bydrugs, L. Ron Hubbard uncovered the existence of a drug personality, anartificial personality created by drugs.

Drugs can apparently change the attitudeof a person from his original personality to one secretly harbouringhostilities and hatreds he does not permit to show on the surface, wrote Mr.Hubbard. While this may not hold true in all cases, it does establish a linkbetween drugs and increasing difficulties with crime, production and the modernbreakdown of social and industrial culture.

The decline in mental alertness and moralstandards in society is as glaring as the headlines trumpeting the devastatingphysiological effects of drugs. The drug scene is planetwide, concluded Mr.Hubbard.

THE BIOCHEMICAL FACTOR

Bio means life; of living things.Chemical means of or having to do with chemicals. And chemicals are thesubstances, simple or complex, which are the building blocks of matter. Bybiochemical is meant the interaction of life forms and chemical substances.

L. Ron Hubbards research found, The humanbody is made up of certain exact chemicals and chemical compounds, and complexchemical processes go on continuously within it. Some substances, such asnutrients, air and water, are vital to the continuation of these processes andfor maintaining the bodys health. Some substances are relatively neutral whenentered into the body, causing neither benefit nor damage. Toxic substances arethose which upset the bodys normal chemical balance or interfere with itschemical processes.

The way a being perceives much of existenceis via the sensory channels of the body. The body actually is a communicationscentre for the being, with the brain acting as a switchboard for translatingthought into action. The biochemical actions of drugs and toxins alter thenormal operations of this pattern, often with harmful or even disastrousconsequences.

Who does this affect? Well, the pastcenturys technological advances have produced many an insidious byproduct, each of them threatening the general individuals well-being. Smog, forinstance, was unknown before the rise of manufacturing centres in Britain.Every major city on Earth now advises its inhabitants daily about the qualityof air they are breathing. A hundredyears ago, the main food preservatives were salt or ice. Today, nearly anypackaged food has a list of the artificial ingredients it contains that islonger than the list of natural ingredients. Environmental disasters such asthe 1986 catastrophe at the Chernobyl nuclear power station in the former USSR- to say nothing of radiation exposure from widespread nuclear bomb testing -did not exist fifty years ago.

We live in a chemical-oriented society. TheEnvironmental Protection Agency reports that the average American consumes fourpounds of pesticides each year and has residues from over 400 toxic substancesin his body. More than 3,000 chemical additives are found in the food weeat. There is no escaping ourcontaminated civilization and, as explained above, it has been found that thesesubstances interfere with the regular chemical reactions in the body and thuscan put an individual in a wooden sort of state: unfeeling, insensitive, unable, untrustworthy, a menace to his fellows.

Add to this the fact that in late 1979, Mr.Hubbard discovered the tendency of LSD to reactivate long after ingestion andthe utterly minute dosages necessary for such reactivation. Upon his discoveryL. Ron Hubbard declared, I finally deduced that it must stay in the system. This statement is far more momentous than one might immediately imagine, particularly with the correlative discovery that all toxic substances -preservatives, pesticides and the full array of both street and medicinal drugs- may likewise lodge in fatty tissues where they cause lessened perception, tiredness, confused thinking, and a host of other symptoms years after theiroriginal ingestion.

PURIFICATION

Realizing that this biochemical factor hadto be handled before an individual could achieve lasting spiritual gain, Mr.Hubbard devised the Purification Programme, which independent researchersacknowledge as a safe and effective detoxification programme.

In simplest terms, the programme may bedescribed as long-range detoxification. Here is the first positive means offlushing out not only drug residues but environmental toxins -and results areboth clinically measurable and highly dramatic.

By way of example come results fromAustralian and United States Vietnam War veterans previously exposed to theherbicide-defoliant Agent Orange who have reported a truly dramatic relief frompersistent skin ailments, headaches, fatigue, insomnia, abdominal difficulties, and interestingly enough, much of what characterizes the Vietnam syndrome inthe way of behavioral problems. Among other regularly reported PurificationProgramme benefits from those exposed to acceptable levels of environmentaltoxins - which is to say, pollutant levels in any modern urban setting - onefinds demonstrably improved vitality, memory, concentration and, apparently aconsequence of food additives, relief from long-term abdominal/intestinal pain.Less measurable, but no less significant, are the similarly dramatic reports ofimproved emotional stability and improved mental outlook all suggesting, ofcourse, that even relatively low levels of toxic residues from atmosphericpollutants and additives may affect behavior. Or to put it more simply, morepointedly: The pollution within our bodies blocks clear thinking.

VALIDATION BY INDEPENDENT STUDIES

The effectiveness of this programme hasbeen validated by countless studies. For example, in the state of Michigan inthe United States, the accidental contamination of cattle with a toxic fireretardant resulted in 97 percent of the states population having detectable amountsof the retardant in their fatty tissues a full five years later. In 1982, agroup of residents were put through the Purification Programme. Tests beforeand after showed a toxin decrease of over 20 percent. A follow-up examinationfour months later proved even more than 40 percent.

Similarly in 1983, independent researchersconducted tests on a woman who had done the Purification Programme after havingbeen heavily exposed to industrial contaminants on the job. The study noted,Removal of the toxic substances from her system was accompanied by remissionof her subjective complaints as well. She no longer felt the extreme tiredness, malaise and lethargy she had been experiencing since her exposure.

Such resultsgenerated interest from prominent biochemical authorities, and consequently, instudy after study, Mr. Hubbards research has been validated by officialreports. Among numerous recent correlative studies, one that bears significantmention was conducted in 1995 by Dr. Shelly Beckmann, a molecular biologist.Monitoring the rehabilitation of cocaine and Valium addicts using Mr. Hubbardstechnology, they found that the detoxification procedure resulted in previouslyundetectable drugs appearing in both the urine and in the sweat of former drug users. These and other similarly impressive studies validate the workability of thePurification Programme, workability that people on every continent of Earthhave experienced subjectively.

L. RON HUBBARD

L.Ron Hubbard is one of the most acclaimed and widely read authors of all time. His works have sold over 154 million copies, have been translated into over 63languages and are published in over 150 countries. No armchair philosopher, L.Ron Hubbard lived an exciting and adventurous life - from barnstorming pilot, novelist and explorer in his early years to world renowned writer, philosopherand humanitarian. He saw life from all sides and wrote about what he observedand discovered. As early as 1949, L. Ron Hubbard had researched the effects ofdrugs and had found, contrary to the claims of analysts and doctors, that drugsdid not help a persons well-being and in fact hindered a person in life.Alarmed at growing drug use in the society in the late 1960s, L. Ron Hubbardspent a decade researching and testing methods to help individuals get rid ofthe harmful effects of drugs, and as detailed above, his discoveries are usedtoday by hundreds of organizations and many thousands of people with remarkableresults. L. Ron Hubbard said in an essay:

Ilike to help others and count it as my greatest pleasure in life to see aperson free himself of the shadows which darken his days.

Theseshadows look so thick to him, and weigh him down so, that when he finds theyare shadows and that he can see through them, walk through them and be again inthe sun, he is enormously delighted. And I am afraid I am just as delighted ashe is.
