BUPA has launched a new website, called www.consultantnet.org, providing amixture of the latest news and research designed to help consultants stayabreast of developments in their own area of speciality and expertise.
Developed for consultants as a definitive, relevant sourceof information, the content is selected by medical editors who filter and checkall research so that the findings are from credible, well-documented material.Other features include an online medical picture library, a conference calendarand the very latest available clinical management guidelines.
Dr Natalie-Jane Macdonald, medical and healthcarepurchasing director, BUPA Insurance, said: "We developed the site, usingconsultants' comments and suggestions, as an invaluable tool to help busypractitioners stay up-to-date with all the latest literature, without needingto trawl the Internet. It will be updated on a daily basis and we haveconcentrated on making the site user-friendly for both secretaries andconsultants."
www.consultantnet.org enables consultants to:
access the latest clinical news and research relating totheir particular speciality access the latest available clinical managementprotocols and guidelines from the Royal Colleges search for, locate anddownload clinical slides and information for use in presentations and articlesfamiliarise and update themselves with forthcoming UK conferences read anonline edition of BUPA's Connect and Consultant Connect newsletters
Natalie-Jane added: "I am confident that bothsecretaries and consultants will find the online atlas of internal medicineextremely useful. There will be no need to root around for pictures toillustrate conference papers or presentations. Secretaries will be able todownload slides at any time, directly from the website."
To use the site, consultants will need to register ontheir first visit. Once they have entered their name and BUPA provider number,they will be given the opportunity to update the current details BUPA holds.They will then choose a username of up to 20 characters and a password of atleast five characters. The website is completely free of charge.
www.consultantnet.org also offers the facility to'bookmark' useful news articles and conference details with a personalisedlibrary facility to 'hold' stories of interest and add notes. Any entries maderemain unique to the user profile and cannot be viewed by any other user.
The website is designed to complement Connect andConsultant Connect, the BUPA newsletters sent to medical secretaries and theirconsultants.
