HPC welcomes new Council member

The Health Professions Council (HPC) is pleased to announce a new member to the council. David Whitmore took his place at the first official Council meeting yesterday following his appointment as an alternative member of the Council, representing the paramedic profession.

The Council of the HPC is responsible for developing strategies and policies. It consists of twenty-five members: one Council member from each of the professions, twelve lay members, and a president.

David Whitmore works at the London Ambulance Service NHS Trust, he has been working in the ambulance service for nearly 25 years. He is currently the Senior Clinical Advisor to the Medical Director LAS. David was a member of the paramedics board for the Council of Professions Supplementary to Medicine before being appointed as a Partner with the Health Professions Council. David's other achievements include assisting in the development of the first full and part time BSc (Hons) degree courses to incorporate both an academic award and the national paramedic award. David has assisted in several large scale operations (including Princess Diana's funeral) and has experienced a high number of major incidents including 9 terrorist bombings.

David Whitmore said "I am delighted to be appointed by the Privy Council as an alternate member of the Council. I am looking forward to sitting on the Education and Training Committee and the Investigating Committee, I am also looking forward to working along side other Council members, facing new challenges and being part of the development of HPC's policies and strategies.
