BUPA deal with the Commonwealth Games

With 100 days to go, BUPA, the leading health and careorganisation has teamed up as the newest sponsor of the XVII CommonwealthGames, the largest multi-sport event ever to be held in the UK
The company will be the official health partner for theGames, which will be taking place in Manchester from July 25 to August 4. TheGames will feature more than 5,000 athletes and officials from 72 nationscompeting in 17 different sports and will be watched by a world-wide televisionaudience of one billion.
Formalising the sponsorship, BUPA Membership deputymanaging director Alison Platt said: "There could be no better event withwhich BUPA can be associated. The partnership will remind people that BUPA isin the business of health and wellbeing and highlight our global reach."
Backing the Games also confirms BUPA's commitment to theNorth West. "With 1,200 employees in Salford Quays and a large hospital inManchester, BUPA is one of the areas biggest employers and is a significantstakeholder and investor," says Alison.
BUPA will focus its event sponsorship on the triathlon,which will take place on the last day of the Games. The event, in whichathletes swim 1,500m, cycle 40kms and run 10kms, will be held directly outsideBUPA's Salford Quays offices. "We will be encouraging BUPA peoplethroughout the country to get involved in the games," said Alison.
Monica Owen, BUPA's community affairs manager, said:"BUPA is already engaged in many different community projects aroundSalford. The Commonwealth Games provides an excellent platform for us todevelop new community partnerships in and around Manchester. The theme of theGames' Festival called 'Spirit of Friendship' also reflects BUPA's commitmentto supporting the communities in which we work."
Niels de Vos, commercial director for the Games organisersManchester 2002, said: "It is excellent news that BUPA, another high-qualitybrand has become an Official Sponsor of the Commonwealth Games. Thissponsorship provides a unique synergy between health and sport which mutuallybenefit both brands."
BUPA encourages people to take an active interest in theirhealth through community events including the BUPA - forthcoming sports andathletics events BUPA Great RunSeries that it has sponsored for the last 10 years. These include the BUPAGreat North Run - Britain's largest mass participation event and the world'sbiggest half marathon - the BUPA Caledonian Run and the BUPA Great South Run.
