The FDA, the union for senior civil servants, todaywelcomed the publication of Lord Herman Ouseleys consultation report reviewingthe Senior Civil Service in Northern Ireland. FDA general secretary JonathanBaume said:

The Northern IrelandCivil Service has made a significant contribution to devolution in NorthernIreland. We are pleased that the review recognises this, and the additionalpressures this has placed on civil servants in recent years. We will beexamining all its proposals in detail.

We remain cautious aboutthe recommendation to advertise all SCS vacancies externally and will beconsidering in detail the rationale offered by the review for this. We willalso be looking with particular interest at the recommendations on tackling thelong hours culture.
