BUPA appoints new medical and health care purchasingdirector

BUPA Membership has appointed Dr Natalie-Jane Macdonald tothe newly created post of medical and health care purchasing director.
Previously head of health care policy and development DrMacdonald will take on additional responsibility for clinical leadership inBUPA's insurance business. She will also work on business relationships withhospitals and medical consultants. In addition to this, Dr Macdonald will chairBUPA Memberships' medical and health policy committee, which will ensure thatbusiness developments are sensible from a clinical and commercial perspective.
Dr Macdonald said: "The new role of medical andhealth care purchasing director is a great opportunity. I hope to be able tobuild even better service for our customers through excellent business andclinical relationships with hospitals and doctors."
Dr Macdonald joined BUPA in 1994 and has worked in thecompany's insurance business for the past five years. Previously head of ethicsand international affairs at the British Medical Association, Dr Macdonald wasresponsible for developing policy in significant areas such as euthanasia andinformed consent. She obtained her medical degree from Glasgow University,graduating with honours in 1984 and completed her higher training in generalmedicine. She also has an MBA from London Business School.
