Kent Radiographer struck off by health regulator

A radiographer from Belvedere, Kent has been struck off by the Health Professions Council.

A panel of the Conduct and Competence Committee met at Park House, Kennington to consider the case of Marco Carvalho on 1st April 2005.

Robert Clegg, chair of the panel, said...

"The Panel heard evidence that the registrant submitted to his employers (an agency) time sheets which contained false information as to the hours worked by him at the Oldchurch Hospital where he was working as a locum radiographer between 1st April 2004 and 21st July 2004. It further heard that he had forged the signature of a senior member of staff on his weekly time sheet on several, separate occasions.

"At a meeting on 21st July 2004, the Registrant admitted submitting false time sheets and forging a signature but was unable to offer any explanation for his actions at the time. He offered to work the hours for which he had falsely claimed but left the hospital that afternoon and has not returned. Furthermore, he failed to supply the additional time sheets requested of him.

"The Panel finds the allegation to be well founded and that the Registrant's fitness to practise is impaired by reason of misconduct.

"In all the circumstances the Panel concluded that the appropriate order was to direct the Registrar to strike off the Registrant's name from the Register."

The Panel also made an interim order to cover the duration of the appeal period, or if an appeal is made, until any appeal is withdrawn or otherwise disposed (subject to maximum period of 18 months).

The Health Professions Council is a UK-wide health regulator set up to protect the public. It sets standards for thirteen health professions. The HPC only registers people who meet its standards for their professional skills, behaviour and health.
