Law Society strengthens UK/Shanghai co-operation in the Legal Sector

The Law Society is hosting a new lawyer's forum on professional development for new entrants to the Chinese and UK legal profession.

The Lord Mayor of London, Rt Hon John Studdard will open the event, which will be held in Shanghai next month. It is aimed at further strengthening relations between law firms in England and Wales and the Shanghai Bar Association.

The one-day forum, titled, "Maximising your potential as young lawyers in the Global World", will consist of interactive sessions with 30 newly qualified lawyers from the top 5 Shanghai and UK law firms.

The participants will attend comparative sessions presenting Chinese and UK views on the essential skills that lawyers require in the global business environment’. The delegates will be given advice on how to build on these skills and will be given the opportunity to prepare and present various client pitch scenarios.

The event follows a legal UK-China Co-operation reception, held during the Lord Mayor's visit to China in September last year, which brought together the local alumni of British legal training schemes and the legal community in Shanghai.

Andrew Holroyd, Law Society President, says this is an important in strengthening relations with our counterparts in China:

"The Law Society has valuable experience in education and training, which enables the transfer of knowledge, experience and good practice.

"This forum is another step towards developing further cooperation between the UK and Chinese legal sectors and maximising the potential of young lawyers ".
