Statement on Staying Safe Action Plan

The Professional Association of Teachers (PAT) has welcomed the DCSF's Staying Safe action plan announced today (5 February 2008).

PAT General Secretary Philip Parkin said: "We welcome a reduction in red tape and clearer guidance and information for teaching staff. The new system for approving venues should be of particular benefit.

"Safely conducted and properly supervised, education outside the classroom is an integral part of learning. Both children and staff benefit enormously from school trips.

"The raft of guidance measures on keeping children safe demonstrates a clear, balanced and sensible commitment to protecting children."
