The Government’s 10 year plan on children’s services
Commenting on the Government’s 10 year Children Plan, Steve Sinnott, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, Britain’s largest teaching union said:
“I welcome the idea of a 10 year Children Plan. At last there is a long term approach to tackling children’s needs. If it is to be effective it has to recognise that schools are vital to their communities.
“What every parent wants is a good local school for every child. Schools cannot be subject to the vagaries of the market.
“The schools which are in most need of support are those in communities which suffer social and economic deprivation. A long term Children Plan which recognises this and directs additional resources to such schools while supporting and motivating their teachers is going to provide a massive boost to the learning of our children and young people.
“I would like to see the Children Plan tied in with Gordon Brown’s commitment to raise the level of spending in state schools to that currently enjoyed by schools in the private sector”.
