Key stage 3 test results – NUT view
13 September 2006
Commenting in the 3 percentage point decline in the number of 14 year olds achieving level 5 in English, Steve Sinnott, NUT General Secretary, said:
“The impact of peer pressure, technological innovation and just being a teenager in an ever changing world are leading to pupils reading less and less. If these factors are to be countered and the reading habit, with its benefits for good English, developed in our young people, it also must be part of their parents’ culture.”
