Public Accounts Committee claims 1 million children receiving poor education

17 October 2006

Commenting on the claim by the Public Accounts Committee that nearly 1 million children are receiving a poor standard of education, Steve Sinnott, NUT General Secretary, said:

“The Public Accounts Committee report is a gross simplification of the reality of education in our schools. There may be a number of reasons why any particular school is experiencing difficulties but that certainly does not mean those schools are failing their children.

“This is an alarmist scare story but parents should be reassured that their children are receiving high quality in the vast majority of the country’s schools.”
