EXAM RESULTS
27 November 2007
Commenting on the breakdown of this year’s exam results, Steve Sinnott, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, Europe’s largest teaching union said:
“The results show that targeted additional support works. There was nothing inevitable about black Caribbean pupils’ achievement being worse than any other group of children.
“But it is obvious that social class is the most powerful influence on pupil achievement
“Gordon Brown must now set a date for achieving his target of raising state school spending to private school levels and within that make the top priority raising spending on youngsters from socially deprived backgrounds”.
