QCA PUBLISHES REGULATORY REPORTS

12 February 2008

Commenting on the reports, Steve Sinnott, General Secretary of the National Union of Teachers, Europe’s largest teaching union said;

The three reports published by QCA today represent an unequivocal vote of confidence in the professionalism of teachers.

The fact that only a tiny number of allegations of test mal-administration have been investigated by the National Assessment Agency is a testament to the professionalism of the teaching profession.  They are under enormous pressure to deliver the best possible results from a damaging and high stakes testing system.  Teachers have maintained the integrity of the testing system with dedication and commitment.

The two reports on GCSEs, A levels and Diplomas also demonstrate that parents can have complete confidence in existing examinations.  Of concern, however, is the low level of awareness of the new Diploma in its introduction year, particularly amongst teachers in independent schools.  There is still an enormous amount to do to ensure that the Diploma is known about and respected by schools, and the general public.
