THE MYSTERIOUS and bizarre psychiatric diagnosis of Munchausen’s Syndrome by Proxy has shaken off its usual psychiatric obscurity to dominate newspaper headlines in recent weeks as a number of high-profile cases are being reviewed. It seems that the medical evidence that led to criminal convictions is now being called into question as the medical experts’ ability to make the diagnosis definitively, is now being called into question in a more fundamental way than ever before.
