VIEWPOINT - DIABETES CARE
Zero tolerance?
The continued availability of animal insulin to diabetics is under threat - despite evidence that many people can suffer adverse reactions to newer synthetic versions, say Jenny Hirst

TYPE 1 diabetes is a chronic condition that mainly affects the young and treatment requires multi-daily insulin injections. Insulin is their lifesaver, without it they die. With it, they should be able to live healthy, happy and productive lives, but only if they have the type of insulin that suits them best. For some people, including my daughter, the insulin they need is under threat of discontinuation by commercial decisions of multi-national pharmaceutical companies.
