Welsh Tory chief praises Cameron
Nick Bourne

The centre-ground approach to politics adopted by David Cameron is in tune with the wishes of the Welsh Conservatives, Nick Bourne has said.

The Tory leader in the Cardiff assembly said Cameron's agenda mirrored that adopted by the party in Wales.

He added that the "positive agenda" was essential for the party ahead of next year's assembly elections.

"After nine years of Labour rule, the people of Wales are looking for a positive alternative," said Bourne.

"They are fed up with the empty words and broken promises from Rhodri Morgan and Tony Blair.

"While it will be up to the Welsh Conservatives to set our own agenda in Wales, David Cameron's upbeat, optimistic, positive approach chimes with the direction we have been taking here for some time.

"One of the most important tasks for us in Wales is to show that we are in touch with people's aspirations and share their priorities.

"It is essential that we demonstrate our commitment through real action, not just words."

Bourne added that Cameron's election as leader was "a watershed for the Conservative Party".

"He has given us the opportunity for a fresh start," the AM said.

"We are building on recent success but also re-assessing the Conservatives' approach to important issues in a 21st century context.

"He is broadening our appeal across the country and reaching out to people from all sections of British society in a way we have not done in the past.

"I am confident that by setting out a positive agenda in Wales ahead of next year's elections we can continue to build on the positive progress we have made in recent years."
