Queen's Speech 2005: Olympic bid
London Olympic Bid

The Queen has outlined the government's plans for the hosting of the London Olympics in 2012, if the capital is selected on July 6.

If London wins, legislation will be introduced "as soon as possible" to ensure "the requirements of the International Olympic Committee are met", the Queen said.

The bill would set up an Olympic Delivery Authority to manage public money going into venues and infrastructure, and co-ordinate public transport.

It would also grant the mayor of London extra powers for the duration of the Games, enabling the Greater London Authority to fulfil all its obligations.

The bill would regulate commercial exploitation of the Olympics, ensuring that intellectual property such as Olympic symbols are given extra protection.

The bill would also make ticket touting a criminal offence.
