'Door not shut' on Law's return to Labour
 |
| Peter Law: Elected as independent |
Independent MP Peter Law could be allowed to rejoin the Labour Party, Peter Hain has said.
The Blaenau Gwent MP was automatically expelled from the party when he chose to stand against Labour's official candidate in the seat after a row over the use of all-women shortlists.
The expulsion meant Labour also lost its majority in the Cardiff assembly, where Law held the same constituency.
In an interview with the BBC's Dragon's Eye programme, Law said "everything is open for discussion".
But he cautioned that it was probably too early for any developments because emotions on both sides are "inflamed".
Speaking to the same programme, the Wales secretary indicated that Law's possible re-admission to Labour would depend on how he voted.
"We never picked a fight with Peter Law, he picked a fight with the Labour Party," said Hain.
"Let's just see how he behaves. He holds the Welsh Assembly Labour majority in his hands.
"You can't offer instant concessions, but I'm not saying either that the door is being shut to Peter Law coming back into Welsh Labour, or any of those who supported him.
"But what I am saying is that nobody is going to be blackmailed over this."
