Campaign in pictures: Day five

April 15, 2005:  PricewaterhouseCoopers administrators Tony Lomas and Ian Powell speak to the media during a press conference at MG Rover, confirming that around 5,000 jobs will be lost

"Earlier this morning, we received what we describe as a definitive letter from SAIC, basically explaining that they didn't want to progress with the possible discussions around the going-concern acquisition of MG Rover Group or Powertrain.

"It's really unfortunate that employees have had to learn this through the media. It's completely unavoidable. The news came to us very early this morning and we reacted as quickly as we could to that.

"After a week of close working with the government, the union and the employees, the letter was received.

"We analysed the letter as quickly as we could. We consulted with the relevant parties but on the basis of the letter we decided it was inappropriate for us to seek any further funding."
