"Either people will wake up on May 6 and find they have a Conservative government with Michael Howard as prime minister and Oliver Letwin presenting his first budget within the month.
"Or alternatively they will wake up to a continuation of a Labour government, myself as prime minister, Gordon as chancellor and the team that has brought us this far in eight years and can do so much more if given a chance"
