North West Durham
Constituency profile
Before 1997 it was unusual to find a safe Labour seat in a rural area in England.
However, County Durham was always the exception, and the Labour tradition runs deep here.
The sitting MP's high profile as Chief Whip undoubtedly secures her position even further, and despite Labour's setbacks in the 2003 local elections, it seems unlikely that Ms Armstrong need worry about the security of her incumbency.
