Constituency profile

This new constituency, formed as part of the Scottish boundary changes comprise the whole of the old Midlothian seat with the addition of Penicuik, formerly in the Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale constituency.

While the SNP can realistically expect to poll up to a third of the vote here in future elections, it is expecting too much for the party to unseat Labour. 

It is almost certain this seat will be a comfortable hold for Labour at the general election.
