Constituency profile

Under the Scottish boundary changes this seat has been formed largely from the old Edinburgh Pentlands.

The constituency gains four wards, including Shandon and Fountainbridge, from the old Edinburgh Central constituency.

The current MP, Lynda Clark, will not be seeking the nomination for Edinburgh South West, and this leaves the way open for the secretary of state for transport and secretary of state for Scotland, Alistair Darling, to be selected in what is now a safe Labour seat.

Results

Due to boundary changes, no previous election results are available for this constituency.
