Constituency profile

Despite a slight Conservative recovery in 2001, this seat is still far from secure and, as such, is vulnerable to tactical voting by Labour supporters in favour of a Liberal Democrat.

Against this, the MP is clearly a well-respected figure who is very much in tune with the thoughts and worries of his constituents.

The Conservatives should be safe here at the next general election, but they certainly have a fight on their hands.
