Plaid Cymru may have won the seat in 1999 for the National Assembly elections but they face quite a challenge to win it back in the future.

For Chris Bryant to lose the Westminster seat is almost unthinkable.

Labour will continue to hold Rhondda for a considerable time to come.

In 2004 they will be looking to regain the local authority to restore the traditional Labour dominance of the political landscape of the region as a whole.
