Bournemouth East
Constituency profile
With a majority of 3,400, the Conservatives must be firm favourites to represent the seat after the next general election.
For, although such a majority is not unassailable, it would require tactical voting on a relatively large scale to unseat Mr Atkinson.
A fall in the Tory vote is improbable on the evidence of 2001.
Nonetheless, he may be minded to keep one eye over his shoulder.
This is certainly not the safe haven of Bournemouth West, particularly after recent boundary changes, and the Tories will be hoping local election losses do not turn into anything larger.
