As with other constituencies largely comprising smaller, older cities, Chester is a rather mixed bag and therefore, bears rather a chequered political complexion.

Once staunchly Tory, it now appears safely Labour for the moment, though local politics indicate that the other parties ought not to be discounted as a threat to Labour dominance.
