This is the Conservatives’ 35th safest seat (only just behind neighbouring Epsom and Ewell), and is likely to remain in that category.

There is Liberal Democrat support at local level, especially in Dorking, and New Zealand born Sir Paul will be challenged by Kashmir born Nasser Butt (one of only 2.5 per cent of the population of non-white ethnicity) for the Liberal Democrats next time, but the local government strength seems unlikely to have a major effect in general elections.
