This is a classic Tory constituency, with a high employment rate, high home ownership and general affluence.

The Liberal Democrats trail by 17.7 per cent, and the Labour Party have little local government presence to build on.

Michael Mates should be sitting comfortably here for as long as he wants to be.

One would assume that his recent forays into the world of entertainment, performing a touring Flanders and Swann revue, are unlikely to provide a sufficiently lucrative or stimulating alternative career.
