Braintree
Constituency profile
This Essex constituency, like the majority of seats in the county, was once considered safe Conservative territory and is somewhat unusual in its guise as a Labour constituency.
Alan Hurst will face a hard fight at the next election to hold onto his seat in Braintree, but his demise is by no means a foregone conclusion, although results at the local level may indicate the start of a slow decline for Labour here.
It will certainly be a Tory target at the next general election.
